Forum Rules
The basics: 1. Keep it clean. Comments that are obscene, vulgar, lewd or sexually-oriented will be removed. Creative spelling of such terms to get around this rule is not okay. 2. Don't threaten to hurt or kill anyone. 3. Be honest. Don't lie about anyone or anything. 4. Be nice. No racism, sexism or any other -ism that degrades another person. 5. Keep it legal. Do not post content (including images and video embeds in story comments) or news articles from other sites. This may violate copyright law and can slow down the site. (You may post images and embeds less than 400 pixels square in TribTalk posts. You may post articles if you comply with fair use - a headline, paragraph of text and a link only.) 6. Police yourselves. Click the "Report Abuse" link to report offensive comments to us. 7. Stay focused. Keep comments on topic and related to the story. In TribTalk, keep to the topic of the original post. If things veer off in a new direction, consider creating a new thread or changing the thread title if the original poster agrees. 8. Infraction Explainer For those of you who are new to TribTalk or are unfamiliar with our infraction system, here is a basic primer on how this works. When you register as a user on TribTalk, you agree to abide by our user guidelines. In order to be fair to all users and to apply an even standard to the enforcment of these guidelines, we have an infraction points system in place. When you violate the guidelines, you are given an infraction worth a certain number of points that expires in a set period of time. If you accumulate enough infraction points at a given time, you will be subject to restrictions or a temporary ban depending on the total number of points. If an infraction is serious enough, or if you accumulate enough non-expiring points, you will be permanently banned from the boards and article comments. Here are the most common basic infractions, point levels and expirations: Signature Infraction (too many lines or links, images larger than permitted): 1 point, expires in 7 days Inappropriate Language (including circumventing the filter): 2 points, expires in 14 days Personal Attack: 5 points, expires in 14 days Copyright Violations: 10 points, expires in 14 days Other, less common violations results in similarly appropriate levels of points and expirations. More serious infractions can result in an immediate and permanent ban. These are up to the discretion of the forum administrator and our online staff. Here are the levels at which a ban occurs, and their expirations. Keep in mind that you must accumulate the listed number of points in your account at the same or overlapping times to meet the level listed. A five point infraction a month ago and another this week will NOT combine to 10 points; but a five point infraction yesterday and one today would. 10 points: warning status until points expire below 10 point level; includes "has been warned" under userID in posts, all posts are moderated and approved before posting 20 points: 7 day ban 30 points: 3 week ban 40 points: permanent ban If you have questions about this system, private message "sltrib" or email tribtalk@sltrib.com. |
