Well, when he gets that realistic he's almost likeable. Giving up on trying to make sense but claiming to be the most reliable judge of when others make sense. . . .

Seeing our fallen state, some sinners call on Jesus to save them. Not much room to hope without Jesus.

It seems to be his mission to help us see the dark side of life...but why would someone chose a path that seems to lead to confusion and unhappiness?

Jesus does bring ultimate hope. Love brings hope too...but God is love so that is really just circular.

Shell, it's not a choice for unhappiness or confusion, it's a refusal to see the connections between cause and effect. Sometimes the things we want are sought in the wrong ways. . . .

In my college days, my philosophy course reading requirements included the book "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" . . . . a rather sordid depiction of all the wrong places and ways to look for love.

Mandy Moore is a plausible polar opposite. . . . .

But here is the condensed wisdom of a complete and unutterable failure myself, the progeny of what I consider to be a literal catalogue of all good intentions gone wrong, across many generations. . . .

I thought you had perhaps provided a link to the truth that is in God, who is indeed the Only Hope for all mankind. . . . .

But in this video selection my first take on it is that she is making the timeless error of all women. . . . .hoping that a perhaps momentarily plausible phony goodguy is her only hope when in truth the jacka$$ is just about to stumble upon some equally timeless idiocy that will ruin her. . . .

If she is indeed taking a stand on godly virtues and truly loves her man, she will need the help of God to reform him--well, and her, too--- along the way. . . . . and there is in that indeed some hope. . . .

However, men and women are in fact truly equals, and for every way that a man can ruin a woman's life there is a correlating way a woman can ruin a man's life. . . .

And without God in the relation, one or the other---or both--- is my infallible prophecy of the future. Well, perhaps just one caveat here. . . .there are indeed fools, like progressive idealists, who are so taken in their smug conceits that they just never realize the trouble they are in, or causing. . . .

The Bible says "They labor in vain who build a house, save the Lord build it", and I hold that as bedrock truth for human relations. For marriages and families.

I thoroughly enjoyed your pick for a song, and I do think it belongs in this thread as a depiction of faith, but I only wish that just once in her song, when she raised her eyes and clasped her hands in prayer, she had sung one line about Jesus being the cornerstone of her faith and her life, and the source of the love she carries for him.

Brings to mind a Christian oldie about "He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is to Him".

I like your analysis of Danse, the song, it's place on this thread, and last but not least relationships.

I guess you don't know the context of the Mandy Moore song. She is ambitious, warm hearted, service oriented girl...a reverend's daughter...in the movie ( A Walk to Remember) The character she plays is dying so there really is no way for the boy to ruin her life. She is helping him to become less of a bad boy.

She sings the song in the school play but I chose to listen to it with the thought that she is singing it to Jesus since she is dying. But even if you don't hear it from that perspective, love is one of the few things we can take with us and that lasts with those we left behind when we leave this world...

Indeed, I knew nothing of the larger context. Thanks for your kind explanation.
